About Nandankanan Zoo National Park
Established on December 27, 1960, the Nandankanan zoo is one of the prime attractions in Orissa. The park includes 362 hectares of forest area including 66 hectares of Kanjia Lake. The main aim of the zoological officials and the state government is to ensure a safe haven for the endangered wildlife. The zoological park also enjoys the status of being the first ever breeding ground of the endangered species.
Wildlife Attraction in the Park
Fauna : White Tigers are the prime attraction of the zoo. They have also earned the zoo an International recognition. Apart from the White Tigers, there are also other animals in this zoo like Rhino, Manipuri deer, Barasingha, Wild ass, Tiger, Himalayan black bear, Nilgai, Lion tailed macaque, Nilgir langur, Chimpanzee, Orangutan, Hippo, Zebra, Sambar, Mouse deer, Blackbuck and Chousingha. There are also 21 species of reptiles found in this zoo.
Birds : Around 59 species of birds including Peafowl and White-necked stork await to enthrall tourists with their varied colours and shapes.
