Climate of Delhi



Delhi is located in the northern part of the India and extends latitude 28.38°N and longitude 77.12°E. It is encircled by the North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh in the east and by Haryana in the other three sides. Delhi is an ideal gateway to travel to the North Indian states of Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttaranchal and Haryana. Delhi is connected to all the major cities in the world by regular flights.
The climate of Delhi is hot and humid in the summers and cold in the winters. The average temperature ranges from 25°C to 46°C during summer and 2°C to 5°C during winter. The cold wave from the Himalayan region makes winters very chilly. In summers, the heat wave is immense and adequate precaution has to be taken before going out in the afternoons.

Delhi has an extreme climate which is very cold in winter and terribly hot in summer. The cold season begins in November and is at its peak around the time of the New Year and the Ist half of the January. After the middle of March, the weather begin to turn warm and soon it becomes hot so that from April to June one experiences extreme heat when the temperature climbs to 45oC at times. The monsoon arrives towards the end of June. Delhi has a rainy season in winter also. It is important for the farmers of the village of the union territory because the rabi crops benefits by it. Weather is generally dry except for 2-3 months of humidity.

Delhi experiences four major seasons with extreme weather conditions during peak summers and winters while remaining months of the year are pleasant. The summer season is from April to June when the temperature rises even beyond 45 oC while the winter season is from mid-November to mid-February when the temperature drops as low as 5 oC. The rainy season is from July to September when the climate sometimes becomes very humid and at times cool and pleasant. The best season to visit Delhi is from October to March. October is the month when almost whole of India is busy in celebration of one or he other festivals such as Navratri, Durga Puja, Dusshera and Deepawali. It is best time to witness the cultural aspect of India. February and March are the months of spring when the winters are on a passé and summers are yet to arrive. These months are made more attractive by colorful flowers and lush greenery.


The best time to travel to Delhi is during the spring seasons of February to April and August to November. It wears a festive look between February and April, the blooming season.
