Accommodation
Rosewood got its name from the persistent sweet smell that this kind of wood gives out. That and its handsome texture made it the wood of choice for the royalty and the British elite. So it was no wonder then that when Raja Rana Bhagat Chand commissioned the new Woodville Palace, he chose rosewood along with a few other select wood for the room interiors and the furniture. For the floors, the Raja selected Persian carpets over Kashmiri which should have been the more obvious choice given that the palace is located in Shimla. But he wanted only the very best for his new home. Over years, the rooms have undergone a few changes in keeping with the times but the warmth and the neo-colonial charm have been preserved well.
Today, accommodation options at the Woodville are divided into five types – the Deluxe Room, the Imperial Room and the three suite types – Majestic, Royal and Princely. All the rooms have been decorated in the period style of the 1930s and the designing and the careful selection of linen, mattresses and pillows will ensure that you have a most comfortable stay. The suites are larger and more spacious, with a dedicated living area.
